  • Entrepreneurs: Sawyer Sparks
  • Business: Gluten-free modeling clay
  • Ask: $125,000 for 25% equity
  • Result: $300,000 for 51% equity
  • Sharks: Kevin O’Leary, Daymond John, and Robert Herjavec

Sawyer brought his wheat-free modeling clay to Shark Tank Season 1. His patented Soy-Yer-Dough is also non-toxic and smells great.

He explained that 1 in 8 kids suffer from wheat allergies, which made his product a needed one. He was currently manufacturing the clay in his mom’s kitchen.

Soy-Yer-Dough had only been operating since the year of filming, during which Sawyer had sold 8,000 units. All of these units were sold online.

What really got the sharks excited was when Sawyer shared that Play-Doh had approached him several times to purchase his patent.

Kevin O’Leary made an offer of $125,000 in exchange for 51% equity in the rights to the patent. Daymond John, Kevin Harrington, and Barbara Corcoran all dropped out because they felt Sawyer already had a good offer on the table.

Sawyer countered Kevin with 40% equity and he declined. Then, Robert Herjavec offered $125,000 for 40% equity.

At this point, Daymond went in on Kevin’s offer, and Robert joined them. Their offer was $300,000 for 51% equity and Sawyer accepted. What happened next for his company? Keep reading our Soy-Yer-Dough update to find out!
