Kwik-Hang Curtain Brackets Update | Shark Tank Season 9

Kwik Hang is a special bracket for curtain rods that lets you skip drilling holes in your walls. All you need is a hammer to tap the bracket into place, eliminating the need for measuring, screws, and nails.

This innovative product was invented by Massachusetts native Tom Burr and was later pitched on the Season 9 of Shark Tank by his son Derrek, a former marine and current police officer. Will the sharks find Kwik-Hang worthy of investment? Let’s find out in this Kwik-Hang update.

Shark Tank Kwik-Hang Pitch

Kwik-Hang Update
  • Entrepreneur: Derrek Burr
  • Business: Easy to install curtain rod hangers
  • Ask: $80,000 for 20% equity
  • Result: No deal
  • Shark: None

Driven by a personal connection and a desire to honor his father’s memory, Derrek Burr pitched Kwik-Hang to the sharks. He explained how Kwik-Hang tackled the challenge of installing curtain rods, a seemingly simple task that often turned into a headache due to uneven walls, drilling difficulties, or potential damage in rentals.

When asked about sales projections, the former marine revealed that Kwik-Hang’s sales had grown 35% over the past year, with healthy profit margins. He said that the single bracket kit cost $3.15 to make and sold for $10.95, while the double kit sold for $17.95.

Despite the promising growth and clear value proposition, the sharks felt the business was still in its early stages. While impressed by Derrek’s motivation and the product’s potential, they each declined to invest.

Mark Cuban thought what he had accomplished was impressive but wasn’t convinced, so he dropped out.

Lori Greiner suggested a licensing route for Kwik-Hang but ultimately decided it wasn’t a good fit for her investment.

Daymond John felt Kwik-Hang wasn’t yet a full-time business for Derrek, so he, too, exited the deal.

Kevin O’Leary, the king of licensing, saw potential here but dropped out.

The story behind this product resonated with Robert Herjavec, but he felt the business was too small for him to invest in, leaving Derrek without a deal.

Did the sharks’ rejection sink Derrek’s vision, or was his motivation strong enough to forge ahead regardless? Let’s find out in our Kwik-Hang update.

Shar Tank Kwik-Hang Update

Despite not landing a deal on Shark Tank, our Kwik-Hang update research found that the company has become a million-dollar business.

After Derrek’s appearance on Shark Tank, Kwik-Hang brackets received a lot of attention because of the story behind it.

In 2017, Derrek expanded product sizes and, in 2018, secured distribution deals in over 5,000 ACE Hardware stores. Major retailers like Home Depot, Walmart, and Amazon soon followed.

Despite patents protecting the design, Kwik-Hang has faced challenges with cheap knock-offs. Derrek’s fight for their removal continues on platforms like Amazon.

In April 2020, Derrek won the U.S. Patriot Award for having a veteran-run business that also employs vets. All products are American-made and use inputs that are also made in the USA.

In February 2021, Derrek’s entrepreneurial journey took another exciting turn with an appearance on HGTV’s Self-Made Mansions. As of August 2023, Kwik-Hang boasts over $9 million in lifetime sales and a thriving business generating roughly $1 million annually.

You can buy products on the Kwik-Hang website, Amazon, or your local hardware store.

With millions in sales, things are looking promising for our next Kwik-Hang update.
