Find out in our Scratch and Grain Baking Co. update!

Shark Tank Scratch and Grain Baking Co. Update

Scratch and Grain Baking Co. Update

  • Entrepreneurs:  Leah Tutin and Taya Geiger
  • Business: Cookie baking kits
  • Ask: $150,000 for 20% equity
  • Result: $150,000 line of credit for 20% equity
  • Sharks: Barbara Corcoran

Leah and Taya brought their Scratch and Grain Baking Co. cookie kits to the tank and passed out samples of their cookies to the sharks. Their kits eliminate the need to buy alternative cookie dough tubes or large boxes of cookie dough that go stale quickly. Each kit can make up to a dozen cookies in a variety of flavors, including oatmeal, chocolate chip, with gluten-free varieties as well.

Their cookie kits were currently available in over 200 different stores, including Whole Foods. In the first 14 months since launching, they had only generated $52,000 in total sales, which was ultimately concerning. The sharks grew even more frustrated when they heard that production costs for a single kit were $3.89, while retailers were selling them between $7.00 and $12.00 per kit.

Mark Cuban dropped out first because he wasn’t interested in investing. Next to go out was Lori Greiner, who believed that competition within the industry would be too much to overcome. Robert Herjavec made an offer of $150,000 in exchange for 40% equity, but he would only make the offer if Barbara Corcoran joined in to partner as well.

Barbara decided to make her own exclusive offer of $150,000 as a line of credit in exchange for 20% equity. When they asked Robert if he had a counter, he said he would do his original offer, with or without Barbara. Leah and Taya ultimately decided to accept Barbara’s offer. So what happened next for the entrepreneurs? Keep reading our Scratch and Grain Baking Co. update to find out!
