Shark Tank K3 Shooting Band Pitch

Shark Tank K3 Shooting Band Update
  • Entrepreneur: Nicky Young
  • Business: Basketball aid
  • Ask: $100,000 for 20% equity
  • Result: $100,000 for 40% equity
  • Sharks: Lori Greiner, Michael Rubin

When Nicky was on scholarship for basketball, she was feeling untouchable, except for one thing: her jumpshot was weak.

When she couldn’t find anything to help, she created the K3 Shooting Band.

The K3 Shooting Band is the only resistant band for your shooting fingers while shooting a basketball. It simply slides over your pointer and middle finger and adjusts on your wrist.

Basically, it helps the player shoot with the proper rotation. Overall, this increases the chances of making the basket.

Though she had a hard upbringing and struggled with dyslexia, she eventually led her college team to its first NCAA tournament appearance.

Besides her college years of playing basketball, she also played professionally in the Dominican Republic. She eventually tried out for the WNBA.

Nicky did make the roster; however, she had a fear of flying and decided not to play.

Nicky shared that she has actually applied to Shark Tank for 15 seasons, and finally made it. She has been in business since 2009, and the K3 Shooting Band is patented.

In terms of numbers, each band costs Nicky $0.91 landed and then retails for $19.99.

Although she was picked up by Dick’s Sporting Goods in 80 stores and 29 states, the company has not reordered after their initial order.

As far as sales went, the previous year, her sales were $43,000. However, year to date, she had only had $10,000 in sales.

Nicky said that her main problem at that time was with marketing. One route she took was sending the band to NBA trainers.

She said that she had actually sent the band to the trainer of NBA player Klay Thompson.

When he posted it on social media, it led to sales in 31 countries within just 3 days.

Guest shark Michael Rubin thought it would be a hard product to sell in retail, and encouraged Nicky to stick to direct-to-consumer. Additionally, he thought it would do well with an influencer program.

Mark Cuban chimed in and said that the Mavericks used other products, so it would be hard for him to help.

However, he suggested that Nicky get in touch with shooting coaches on social media, who could be good influencers for her.

Kevin O’Leary would have liked to see more proof of concept with direct-to-consumer sales. Since he hadn’t, he was out.

Barbara Corcoran applauded Nicky for her grit and accomplishments thus far. However, the product wasn’t for her, so she went out next.

Michael said that while he didn’t love the business, he did believe in Nicky. With that, he offered her $100,000 for 50% equity.

Just then, Lori Greiner and Michael decided to partner up for the $100,000 and 50% equity. Lori added that she could help with the packaging and marketing of the product.

Nicky countered with 40% equity, and Lori and Michael accepted. Finally, the deal was done, and Nicky walked away with two sharks on her team!

How do you think things turned out for Nicky and her company? Keep reading our K3 Shooting Band update to find out!

Shark Tank K3 Shooting Band Update

Based on our current research for a K3 Shooting Band update, there is no official confirmation that suggests that the deal with both Lori and guest shark Michael Rubin closed successfully.

However, in the weeks following their airing, the company focused on building retail presence. As a result, they became available in select Dick’s Sporting Goods stores and Walmart.

The company shared Instagram posts thanking Dick’s for carrying its product into specific store locations in Arizona and California, and even celebrated reaching Canada..

Sincerely, after doing our due diligence on the company, we couldn’t find much. For instance, their last Facebook post was in 2022, while their last Instagram post was around 2 years ago. But the website remains active, though.

While this does not in any way suggest a close of operation, it just means things aren’t moving as fast as we thought.

In the meantime, if you want to improve your jump shot, you can purchase a K3 Shooting Band directly from their website.
