Shark Tank Kookn’ Kap Update

Kookn' Kap Update

  • Entrepreneurs: Juli Deveau and Ozma Khan
  • Business: Cooking bonnet that keeps food smells out of the hair
  • Ask:  $50,000 in exchange for 20% equity
  • Result: No deal
  • Sharks: None

Friends and business partners, Juli and Ozma brought their cooking bonnet known as the Kookn’ Kap, to the tank. According to Juli, one night she hosted a dinner party, serving fish as the entree, but it left her hair smelling like the fish! That’s when the ladies came up with the idea for their product.

After selling over 1,700 caps in just under a year, the pair was seeking an investment to help them grow. Juli told Mark Cuban that their product retailed online from $9.95-$12.95 and cost $3.70 to make. Barbara Corcoran threw cold water on the womens’ pitch when she informed them that their Kookn’ Kap had a CAUTION:FLAMMABLE tag. Ozma said they meant “non-flammable”, but that wasn’t what the label said. The error elicited scoffs from the sharks.

Mark told the ladies that they had the perfect product for selling on QVC, but that wasn’t his specialty, and he was out. Lori Greiner, who specializes in sales on QVC, told the women that a shower cap would do the same job. Lori felt the product was unnecessary, and she was out. Referencing Juli’s fish tale, Barbara said the better idea would be to have a shower after cooking fish, and she too went out.

Robert Herjavec was next to go out, telling the women that despite their beauty, they looked like grannies wearing their ruffled hats, and he didn’t think others would find the product appealing. Kevin O’Leary agreed that the ladies were cute, but he told them their Kookin’ Kap idea was a big lemon. Kevin was the last shark to go out.

With no offers from any of the sharks, Juli and Ozma were forced to leave the tank without a deal. What do you think happened next for their company? Keep reading our Kookn’ Kap update to find out!

As for what happened after Juli and Ozma made their pitch on Shark Tank, our Kookn’ Kap update research showed us that the women sold their hats for a few more months after their 2013 appearance. Sadly though, it seems the company went out of business sometime in 2014. This will be our final Kookn’ Kap update.
