Shark Tank’s The Table Tyke Pitch

Shark Tank's The Table Tyke Pitch
  • Entrepreneur: Berlyn Haughton
  • Business: Silicone placemat for babies and kids
  • Ask: $100,000 for 10% equity
  • Result: No deal
  • Shark: None

Berlyn grew frustrated taking her baby out to eat because the baby kept hitting their face on the hard table or chewing on it.

So she created The Table Tyke, the only silicone table mat with a bumper that protects babies from getting hurt on the table.

It also keeps spills in place and gives teething babies something to chew on in between bites at mealtime.

Keeps Kids Safe
The Table Tyke | Silicone Placemat with Bumper

Unlike other placemats, our patent pending silicone placemat is constructed with a bumper that hugs the table edge to keep wandering teethers protected from harmful germs and also keeps your children safe from getting hurt.

It rolls up easily after use and can be tossed in the dishwasher for cleaning.

Berlyn added that it’s not just for meals, it also works for crafts, baking, and other kid activities.

Aside from Berlyn’s original design, she also offers The Table Tyke XL, which offers even more space for bigger projects.

The sharks examined their samples. Barbara Corcoran asked if table injuries were a real issue. Berlyn said yes and shared that one baby even knocked out a tooth.

She launched the product at the end of 2020 and did $10,000 in sales. In 2021, sales rose to $24,000. In 2022, she made just under $100,000.

For 2023, she expected to close the year with $200,000. Mark Cuban wanted to know why word-of-mouth hadn’t grown the business faster.

Berlyn said 60% of her sales came in Q4 of 2022 after a viral TikTok video. She believes social media can keep driving growth and hopes to hire a PR team to help.

Each unit costs $4.90 to make and sells for $24.99. Berlyn runs the business alone, with help from an Amazon consultant.

Additionally, she recently got into retail and now sells in more than 80 baby boutiques across the U.S.

Robert Herjavec liked the product but didn’t see it growing beyond one item. Also, there wasn’t enough long-term return there, so he went out.

Kevin O’Leary said it wasn’t the right fit for him and bowed out. Mark said the same, but it just wasn’t in his space.

Lori Griener liked the product and thought Berlyn built something unique, but didn’t think she needed an investor.

Barbara praised her for her hard work, but didn’t see room for a shark.

Without any offers from the sharks, Berlyn was forced to leave without a deal.
