Matador Meggings founder, Valentine Aseyo, entered the
Valentine has created a line of leggings that are made specifically for men, with modesty padding included. Additionally, he says that compression pants improve blood flow and circulation, which is especially helpful during workouts and can lead to faster recovery.
The company offers leggings, compression shorts, and bike gear in over 50 unique prints and designs. Further, in addition to pockets and zippers, the pants also have a loop holder in the back for sweat towels.
Born in Turkey, Valentine later immigrated to America and went on to work for Facebook for 8 years. He then began teaching yoga classes but wished that he could wear leggings like the women in his classes.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t find anything for men that concealed the groin area. This is when he took it upon himself to create the product that he needed.
In terms of the numbers, Matador Meggings has over $2 million in lifetime sales since launching 3 years prior. In the year prior, sales were $620,000 and he’s projecting to make $1 million in sales in the current year.
We’ve partnered with six companies to put together a Shark Tank Stocking Stuffer Box that’s worth $100! Here’s everything that’s in the box:
- Sheets Laundry Club Travel Packs x2
- Honey Bee Bars - 12 Pack
- Snactiv Finger Chopsticks
- FryAway Cooking Oil Solidifier
- Pizza Pack
- Nature’s Wild Berry Sampler Pack
The leggings cost $18 to manufacture and retail for $92. While the margins are good, Kevin O’Leary is concerned that there is nothing proprietary about the product.
Further, he says that the modesty padding is the only thing that sets his leggings apart, and any big company can copy this. For this reason, he is out.
Mark Cuban knows a thing or two about compression pants because the players on the Dallas Mavericks wear them. However, he doesn’t see Matador Meggings blowing up into a huge business, so he is the next shark out.
Lori Greiner doesn’t think that guys will wear the product. For that reason, she is also out.
Daymond John says it’s a great business for Valentine, however, it’s not investable. Daymond is out next.
Guest Shark Daniel Lubetzky follows out because he doesn’t think that Valentine understands who his customer base is.
With that, Valentine leaves
