Off the Cob Tortilla Chips Update | Shark Tank Season 6

Most tortilla chips are made from bland, starchy grain corn, the kind that’s used for animal feed and ethanol. Cameron Sheldrake wanted to produce a better product. His tortilla chips are made with sweet corn, which gives a savory, real corn on the cob flavor, and it’s healthier too! Will the sharks offer Cameron a deal on Shark Tank Season 6? Find out in our Off the Cob update!

Off the Cob Update

  • Entrepreneurs:  Cameron Sheldrake
  • Business: Tortilla chips made with sweet corn
  • Ask: $100,000 for 15% equity
  • Result: No deal
  • Sharks: None

Cameron brought his Off the Cob tortilla chips to the tank, to prove that they were worth an investment. He explained that his sweet corn chips are organic, non GMO, gluten free, healthier and taste better than other brands too. He passed out samples and the sharks loved them. Guest shark, Nick Woodman, was especially impressed with the packaging and branding.

At the time of filming, Cameron’s company had been selling for about 11 months and was in various natural food stores. He had generated $45,000 in sales during his first year in business, but his margins were not great. Each bag of chips was manufactured for $0.85, sold whole sale for just under $2.00 and retailed for $3.49. The numbers concerned the sharks and they all began dropping out, one by one.

Kevin O’Leary believed the company would struggle to generate a reasonable profit, and Mark Cuban said it was too hard to succeed in the organic snack food market. Daymond John liked that the product was gluten free, but felt that partnering would be too much of an uphill battle. Lori Greiner said the chips were delicious but it would be too hard to get her money back, and Nick didn’t feel he would know how to scale the business.

Unfortunately for Cameron, he had to leave the tank without a deal. So, what became of his company? Keep reading our Off the Cob update to find out!

Sadly, we have bad news to share. Research for our Off the Cob update revealed that Cameron seems to have abandoned his company. The tortilla chips are no longer available on Amazon and the last social media account update was posted in 2019, confirming the bad news that Off the Cob is no longer in operation. This will be our final Off the Cob update.
