Shark Tank Skinny Shirt Update

Skinny Shirt Update

  • Entrepreneurs: Julie Kalimian
  • Business: Women’s shirts for layering
  • Ask: $100,000 for 20% equity
  • Result: No deal
  • Sharks: None

Julie entered the sharks with a model, wearing a button down shirt under a sweater. Instead of put together, she looked like a hot mess. She then changed into the Skinny Shirt, and suddenly looked like a whole different person. Her look was now stream lined, fitted and impressed the sharks. As Julie passed out samples, she explained that her product also helped hold everything in and gave a slimmed look.

She told the sharks that her company had generated about $500,000 in lifetime sales but had a short-term issue with a manufacturer that turned out to not be as trustworthy as they initially seemed.  She told the sharks that she had solved this problem and had already partnered with a new manufacturer that is taking over her company.

Her new manufacturer is willing to produce a single shirt for $9.50 while she is capable of selling at a price point of $68.00 to $76.00. Two-thirds of her company’s sales come directly from her website while the other third comes from wholesale retailers.

Kevin O’Leary, Mark Cuban and Robert Herjavec decided to drop out because of the various manufacturing problems. Lori Greiner dropped out stating she just isn’t a fan of the look of a collared shirt. Barbara Corcoran commended Julie for the way she handled herself in the tank but didn’t like her presentation, so she also went out. While Julie was forced to leave without a deal, what became of her company? Keep reading our Skinny Shirt update to find out!

Sadly, we have bad news to share. Research for our Skinny Shirt update revealed that the company was forced to go out of business by the end of 2018 and hasn’t updated its social media or website since then. It looks as though the challenges were too much to overcome for Julie and her company. This will be our final Skinny Shirt update.
