Dogue Artisan Dog Food Update | Shark Tank Season 15

Husband and wife duo, Rahmi Massarweh and Alejandra Vasquez, pitched their dog food line during Shark Tank Season 15. Dogue isn’t your average dog food though, it offers artisan-level food and supplements for dogs on a raw diet. Will any of the dog-loving sharks want to join their efforts? Find out in our Dogue update and pitch recap!

If you’re short on time, here’s a quick overview of what happened to Dogue after Shark Tank!

Rahmi Massarweh and Alejandra Vasquez appeared on Shark Tank Season 15 but ultimately left without an offer from any of the sharks. In terms of a Dogue update, the company received a nice boost in sales after appearing on the show and now offers many products on its website.

Dogue update

  • Entrepreneurs: Rahmi Massarwah and Alejandra Vasquez
  • Business: Artisanal raw dog food
  • Ask: $100,000 for 20% equity
  • Result: No deal
  • Shark: No offer

The couple entered the tank sharing their culinary skills, and showing off their beautiful pastries. As they present Dogue, they show off specialty treats, shocking the sharks with the list of ingredients.

From elk to cuttlefish, these are not your typical pastry ingredients. However, Rahmi took his prestigious culinary degree and experience and turned it into a whole foods dog food company with his wife, Alejandra.

During their pitch, they bring in their giant mastiff, who enjoys a slice of ‘cake’ from his mom and dad—proving that dogs love what they’re offering.

The couple currently runs a restaurant, where they also hold tastings for their dog customers. They’ve had the location for around a year, and bring in around $20,000 a month in sales.

However, in terms of profit, they’re breaking even. That said, Rahmi points out that the bulk of their sales comes from their pre-packaged, raw dog food.

What the couple is asking the sharks to invest in, is their dessert line. They want to get their pastries sold all over the country. But they need the help of a shark to make that happen.

In terms of cost, a packaged dog meal costs around $2 to make and retails for around $8. Whereas a pastry costs around $0.85 to make, and then retails for $15.

Lori Greiner thinks the business is great for the couple, but she doesn’t think that it’s scalable. For this reason, and concerns about the costs of shipping, she’s out.

Mark Cuban agrees with Lori, especially in terms of scalability. He goes out next.

Kevin O’Leary thinks the concept is a good one, and also thinks that after people see it on Shark Tank, they’ll have to have figured out how to ship it. However, he doesn’t see how they’ll make that happen, so he’s also out.

Daymond John thinks it will be far too difficult to get into retail, let alone shipping to customers. He encourages the couple to focus on their direct-to-consumer sales in their location but ultimately goes out.

Last but not least, Robert Herjavec is the only shark remaining. Unfortunately, he doesn’t think the couple has a plan in place to move forward with.

He says he would have invested if they had better answers, but since they didn’t, he’s out.

Will the couple be able to meet demands, despite not getting a deal? Keep reading our Dogue update to find out what happens following the show!
