Ryan brought his DVD workout program, Lose 12 Inches With Any 12 Workouts, to the tank. Now in the best shape of his life, and having recently won the Dallas rodeo riding championship, he wanted to share his revolutionary workout plan with the masses.
Mark Cuban and Robert Herjavec asked Ryan how it all worked. Ryan revealed the big secret immediately– heart rate zone training. His DVDs came with a heart monitor and, by entering information into proprietary software that Ryan created. A user would wear the heart monitor and work out normally on any workout, with the only goal to stay in that heart rate zone throughout the workout.
Robert wanted to know more about Ryan’s plans for his business. Ryan said step one involved the Internet, and customers would pay $9.95 to download the system. Step two would be a TV infomercial. Queen of QVC Lori Greiner, perked up at the sound of this, but she was concerned false claims in the name.
Kevin O’Leary steered the conversation back to business, asking how he should expect to make his money back. Ryan excitedly went on to discuss “Phase 2” of his plan, involving motivational DVDs and a product called Rodeo Abs, which provides a full body workout from the comfort of your home. The sharks were intrigued by Rodeo Abs, but the interest fizzled before long.
Kevin referred to Ryan as “an artist who needs a producer.” He did not feel like he could be that producer for the cowboy, but felt strongly that someone out there might. Unable to offer value, Kevin was out.
Mark spoke next, applauding Ryan as a trainer and an incredible presence. However, he felt he couldn’t quite pin down the cowboy and get a good read. Unable to figure out if he was looking at a future success or a slippery con artist, Mark was out.
Robert asked for clarification here regarding the “12 Inches” part of the claim. Ryan said that, in ten years and more than ten thousand clients, he has never had anyone not lose twelve inches in the twelve week time frame. Regardless, Robert wasn’t sold, and was out.
Lori was still on the fence, worried about false claims and liability. Ryan offered to negotiate the equity, but it was futile. Lori reiterated that there were too many challenges for her to get past and, for those reasons, she was out.
That left only Daymond John, who offered Ryan exactly what he was asking for. Ryan accepted, and they made a deal! What happened next? Keep reading our Lose 12 Inches With Any 12 Workouts update to find out!
