Shark Tank Yourself Expression Update
- Entrepreneurs: Shelby and Gordy Gogulski
- Business: Interchangeable, custom jewelry
- Ask: $50,000 for 20% equity
- Result: No deal
- Shark: None
At only fifteen years old, Shelby Gogulski was already experiencing the fun of being an entrepreneur. She owned a 33% stake in Yourself Expression, a company she founded with her family. Her brother Gordy held a 20% stake, with their parents owning the remaining stake.
Shelby and Gordy presented their products to the sharks, explaining how they worked. Customers could buy the base and then a selection of snaps that could be used interchangeably on various items. They could also be switched whenever the user wanted.
As usual, Kevin O’Leary was the first to want to know about sales. The siblings had been selling their product in 90 retail stores, such as gift shops and hospital shops. They were projecting estimated sales of $365,000 for the year.
The siblings were projected to get $80,000 in profit that year. Robert Herjavec asked what they were looking for with the sharks. Shelby explained that they wanted to break into the souvenir sector and get the relevant licenses for that.
Lori Greiner admired their strategy and the way they were planning their successful business venture for the future. Barbara Corcoran pointed out that she believed there was too much stock in such a diverse offering. She went out, followed by Kevin, who gave the same reason.
Robert stated that he was impressed by them, and talks Shelby through when she cries because of the rejection. However, Robert also went out because he didn’t think the business would grow much past current retail opportunities.
Mark Cuban also went out because he thought Shelby would find other things to do in the near future, and that a big investment would add too much stress to the kids. Lori agreed with Mark, but joined the other sharks in giving Shelby advice.
