- Business: Dating coach services for men
- Ask: $100,000 for 2% equity
- Result: Mark Cuban
- Shark: $100,000 for 10% equity
Dating coach Blaine Anderson wants to help single men find love. Her company, Dating By Blaine, isn’t a matching service however, it instead trains and coaches men on how to attract awesome partners.
She opens her pitch pretending that Mark Cuban is trying to get a date with fellow shark Barbara Corcoran. After a little coaching help with texting, she shows how her services help the man land a date.
As she shares about her company, she states that during the COVID-19 pandemic, she lost her job and needed a way to earn a living. That’s when her husband encouraged her to create and sell a course.
Without any money to invest, she filmed a course and then made a profile on dating sites offering her services as a dating coach.
Her company is now growing quickly and she wants to partner with a successful and confident man who tells other men that it’s okay to get help with dating.
She offers various online courses that even teach men how to successfully text in a way that will help lead to a date. Additionally, she also offers one-on-one coaching as well.
We’ve partnered with six companies to put together a Shark Tank Stocking Stuffer Box that’s worth $100! Here’s everything that’s in the box:
- Sheets Laundry Club Travel Packs x2
- Honey Bee Bars - 12 Pack
- Snactiv Finger Chopsticks
- FryAway Cooking Oil Solidifier
- Pizza Pack
- Nature’s Wild Berry Sampler Pack
Lori Greiner wants to know about sales. Blaine says she started the business halfway through 2020 and her overall sales are $2.2 million.
In the first six months of business, she did $22,000. Then in 2021, she did $484,000. Further, in 2022, she did $1 million, and she’s projecting to finish out the current year with $1.5 million.
Guest shark Michael Rubin asks about the business model and how it works. The entrepreneur says that her primary online course is her Dating Masterclass, which retails for $1,295.
Blaine is a one-woman show, though she does have part-time contractors. To get one-on-one coaching with Blaine, she charges $6,295, for six 45-minute one-on-one calls.
Mark asked Blaine to break down how many of each course she sold last year, and she couldn’t say. However, when asked about margins, she says she walked away with $500,000 in profit last year.
Guest shark Michael Rubin and Fanatics Chairman and CEO says that he sees Blaine more as a consultant, rather than a company to scale. For that reason, he is out.
Mark doesn’t like that Blaine is only offering 2% equity in her company, so he doesn’t feel that she’s serious about needing a shark.
Barbara doesn’t think that Blaine needs a shark, so she drops out next.
Lori Greiner is bothered by the fact that Blaine wants to partner with a man for her business, so she is also out.
Blaine shares that she is really interested in working with Mark, and after some back and forth she ends up making a deal with him for $100,000 for 10% equity.
Since Blaine was able to leave with a deal, what happened following her appearance on
