Delighted by Hummus Update | Shark Tank Season 9

Makenzie Marzluff saw a need for a sweet, healthy snack that consumers wouldn’t feel guilty about after eating. This led her to start her own business where she created a vegan, gluten-free, non-GMO healthy snack dip made with hummus. She claims this dip tastes more like cookie dough than hummus itself and that it will satisfy your sweet tooth. Will the sharks dive headfirst into this Season 9 treat? Read on to find out in our Shark Tank Delighted by Hummus update and pitch recap.

Shark Tank Delighted by Hummus Update

Delighted by Hummus Update

  • Entrepreneur: Makenzie Marzluff
  • Business: Sweet, healthy snacks made with hummus
  • Ask: $600,000 for 12% equity
  • Result: $600,000 for 25% equity
  • Shark: Mark Cuban

Makenzie brought in five different flavors of her hummus and served them to the sharks to showcase the versatility of her product. At the time of her appearance on Shark Tank, Delighted by Hummus was starting to make a name for itself, but was having some issues with branding and growth.

Guest shark, Alex Rodriguez, felt the valuation was way too high and dropped out. Barbara Corcoran shared her fear that Makenzie would not be able to manage a team and delegate tasks well and followed Alex out of the deal.

Lori Greiner didn’t want in because she saw too much work ahead with finding and securing distribution. Kevin O’Leary thought her valuation was too high, so he offered $600,000 as a loan at 11% interest plus 6% equity. Mark Cuban also gave an offer of $600,000 for 25% equity.

Makenzie had to make a decision between Kevin and Mark. After several questions to Mark, she made a deal with him for the amount he offered. However, Mckenzie ended up declining this offer later on and the deal never materialized. Was that a good decision? Find out in our Shark Tank Delighted by Hummus update.

After the episode aired, Makenzie started running into issues of companies knocking off her product, making it hard for her to keep retail shelf space. However, at the time of this Delighted by Hummus update, the company is still in business and resides in Bozeman, MT. They manufacture the products there and rent out their kitchen space to those who want to use it for their businesses.

The hummus is no longer sold ready-made, but you can buy DIY kits on her website. Delighted by Hummus is offered exclusively online.

Makenzie has added a few more ventures under her belt including drinking chocolate and protein bars. She also has even written her own book!
