Long Table Pancakes Update | Shark Tank Season 14

Most pancake mixes are made with unsustainable grains and don’t offer much nutritional value, which can be bad for both people and the environment. Samuel Taylor’s Long Table creates pancake and waffle mixes using heirloom grains like sorghum and blue corn. These grains are better for health and help support biodiversity. Taylor wants to expand his business and make a bigger impact with the sharks’ help. Will the sharks pull up a seat to support Samuel? Let’s dig into our Long Table update and pitch recap to find out.

Shark Tank Long Table Pitch

Shark Tank Long Table Update
  • Entrepreneur: Samuel Taylor
  • Business: Whole heirloom grain pancake and waffle mix
  • Ask: $140,000 for 15% equity
  • Result: No deal
  • Sharks: None

Samuel kicks off his pitch with a heartfelt performance featuring Lindsey, the love of his life, to highlight the inspiration behind his nutrient-dense, farm-to-table pancake mix.

He’s asking for $140,000 for 15% of his company to scale production. He also wants to improve marketing, especially on social media, where he struggles to gain traction.

Long Table is a specialty food company that produces pancake and waffle mixes crafted from heirloom grains, emphasizing sustainability and nutritional value.

The mixes incorporate unique ingredients like popcorn flour, blue corn, and sorghum, offering high protein and fiber content.

Despite the innovative recipes, Samuel revealed that the company’s annual revenue peaked at only $20,000 between 2015 and 2019.

When Kevin O’Leary asked about sales, Samuel provided a detailed breakdown.

Each 16-ounce packet of pancake and waffle mix costs $3.10 to produce and sells for $11.25, yielding a 72% profit margin.

While lifetime sales totaled $250,000, yearly sales before 2020 averaged a modest $20,000.

Currently, 70% of revenue comes from direct-to-consumer sales, with the remaining 30% from 20 independent grocery stores in the Chicago area.

Samuel admitted he was seeking a strategic partner to help boost his business, particularly in social media marketing, which he identified as one of his weakest skills.

However, the sharks were unconvinced by the financial performance and marketing limitations.

Lori Greiner was the first shark to drop out, stating that she wasn’t passionate about pancakes or the company’s mission.

Barbara Corcoran followed, explaining that she didn’t believe the business had momentum.

Mark Cuban appreciated the mission behind Long Table but felt Samuel was prioritizing the story over the product and decided to pass.

Kevin showed interest but ultimately backed out due to concerns about the lack of a social media presence and other business challenges.

With all the sharks out, Samuel left the Tank without a deal.

Let’s get a Long Table update to see where the company is today since their episode aired.

Shark Tank Long Table Update

Our Long Table update found that within three days after appearing on Shark Tank, the company received over 10,000 orders, completely selling out its inventory.

Remarkably, Samuel, who had $250,000 in lifetime sales over six years, matched that number in just seven minutes on the night the episode aired.

This rapid success enabled him to grow the Long Table team by hiring a social media manager who expanded his online presence.

Over the following eight months, our Long Table update found that the company generated $1.25 million in sales.

Samuel also continued his commitment to sustainability by working with 15 family farms across six states.

Samuel shared that the opportunity came at a crucial time—after the pandemic left him and his wife, both theater professionals, without work and raising an 18-month-old child.

Despite not securing a deal on Shark Tank, Samuel applied the advice from the sharks to turn his business around and set it on a path for sustained growth.

If we get another Long Table update, we will let you know.
