Hip Chixs Update

  • Entrepreneurs: Megan Jackson Carreker and Aimee Miller
  • Business: Premium line of women’s jeans
  • Ask: $150,000 for 35% equity
  • Result: No deal
  • Shark: None

Megan and Aimee came on the tank with “the best butt money can buy” thanks to their company Hip Chixs, and its line of premium jeans for women. The jeans featured an angled pocket and curved yoke to accentuate a woman’s natural curves.

Robert Herjavec wanted to know about sales. Unfortunately, they had only sold $12,000 at the time of filming. Megan said they wanted the money to get into more boutiques and invest in a PR marketing campaign.

Daymond John asked about the retail price, wholesale price, and cost, learning that Hip Chixs jeans sold for $187 retail. Unfortunately, it cost Megan and Aimee $68 to make them and they were selling to wholesalers for $80. Megan and Aimee insisted they could get the cost down if they were able to put in bigger orders.

Robert asked Daymond what it would cost for him, a well-established shark in the clothing retail space, to create and sell a premium denim line. Daymond said he would need $5 million minimum to get it rolling. Upon hearing that, Robert and Lori Greiner went out.

Daymond exited next, but not before imparting some industry-specific wisdom. He advised the ladies to send between one and two hundred pairs of jeans to celebrities. He said that it’s a longshot but, if just one celebrity takes them up on an offer to partner, they could use that as leverage to land a big shark.

Mark Cuban also provided some encouragement before going out, leaving Mr. Wonderful as the last shark standing. Whereas the other sharks did their best to see the upside and provide encouragement, Kevin would not. Instead, he said they had essentially zero chance of success and they should do something else. Needless to say, he was out as well.

While the ladies left the tank without a deal, did their company survive anyway? Keep reading our Hip Chixs update to find out!

In 2015, Megan and Aimee launched a Kickstarter campaign, looking to secure $20,000 in crowdfunding. Unfortunately, they failed to reach the goal and wound up walking away with nothing. After this, it wasn’t long before Hip Chixs closed up shop for good. Megan went on to become a photographer stylist for Fossil, while Aimee became a trainer at Sculpt. This will be our final Hip Chixs update.
