  • Business: Money clip to securely carry cash
  • Ask: $50,000 for 20%
  • Result: $50,000 for 40%
  • Shark: Barbara Corcoran

Johnny and Vinny bring their company, Broccoli Wad, to Shark Tank Season 2, Episode 4. The Broccoli Wad is basically a high-strength silicone rubber band, with a gold or silver plate, that wraps around cash, to emulate how wise guy carry their money.

The two guys deliver an entertaining presentation of the product. However, Robert Herjavec is not sure the Broccoli Wad band is worth the valuation.

To make matters worse, Barbara Corcoran immediately goes out, saying that she doesn’t get the product. Although Johnny seems disappointed, he explains that it is a product more catered to men, as they are more used to rubber bands as cash clips.

Guest shark Jeff Foxworthy, says he is interested in the product, because wallets are becoming too big, and other clips just don’t work. Kevin O’Leary wants to know how the product would be sold.

Johnny says the Broccoli Wad package includes four bands, and four metal slides. This retails between $10 and $14.

Further, advertising spots have already been created with more cast members from The Sopranos.

Additionally, Vinny has set up a deal with some casinos, to give out the product during and run some appearance promotions. Daymond John asks how much has already been invested in the company.

Johnny says it is around $200,000. This ultimately takes the sharks by surprise.

When asked what he would spend an investment on, Johnny says that some of the money would eventually go toward advertising on tv. Additionally, he’s looking for sales and marketing expertise.

Robert asks why Vinny’s face isn’t on the product, and most of the sharks agree it’s a great idea. With that, Barbara jumps back in, saying she’d get behind the Vinny Wad branding.

On the other hand, Kevin isn’t into it, so he goes out, followed by Jeff and Daymond John.

Barbara makes an offer for contingent on Vinny having his face on the product. The deal is $50,000 for 40% of the company, with half of the percentage going to Vinny.

At this point, Robert goes out, saying that Barbara’s deal is great.

Vinny accepts the deal on Johnny’s behalf, and gives Barbara a hug. With that, the two leave Shark Tank with a deal for Broccoli Wad.

Our Broccoli Wad update reveals that the deal with Barbara never actually closed. That said, it seems that Johnny and Vinny eventually took some advice from the sharks about marketing.

They eventually added Vinny’s face to the packaging, although they never did change the name of the product.

Since then, the company has gone silent, and they have no active social media presence, and no website to be found.

Unfortunately for Johnny and Vinny, the Shark Tank appearance did not translate into huge sales. Ultimately, we have to assume that the company is out of business.
