Shark Tank The Peep Show Update

The Peep Show update

  • Entrepreneurs: Steven Gray
  • Business: Birdhouses with a camera inside
  • Ask: $250,000 for 20% equity
  • Result: No deal
  • Shark: None

As Steven Gray points out, most people don’t know what’s going on in their birdhouse. They don’t know if there are baby birds inside, or if a bird is even residing there, so that’s why he created The Peep Show.

The Peep Show seamlessly connects to your smartphone to alert you when there’s activity. With the help of a hidden camera inside the birdhouse, you can now see inside and be amazed by the creatures that live there.

That’s not all though! Steven has integrated some nice features, which include a climbing wall for baby chicks to easily exit the birdhouse, an elevated nesting floor, and lots of circulation.

Steven gives the sharks their own Peep Show birdhouses, and they love the quality. The entrepreneur shares that credit goes fully to his dad, who came up with the idea 30 years prior.

He explains that he grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska, and when the birds showed up after long winters, it was a big deal. Because his dad wanted to see inside their many birdhouses, he figured out a way to add a camera to them with a sewer line camera of all things!

Now Steven has taken his dad’s ingenious idea and modernized it for bird-lovers to enjoy.

Regarding the cameras inside of The Peep Show birdhouses, they are actually off-the-shelf security cameras. They have a multi-year charge and come included with the birdhouse for an additional $100.

The birdhouses are $199 each without the camera, or $299 with the camera. It costs him $47 to manufacture the birdhouse.

During his pitch, Steven shares that he spent his career in advertising, working for technology companies, but saved and retired early. He then started this business just over 3 months ago and has $28,000 in sales.

Kevin O’Leary cracks some jokes about the birds sewing Steven over privacy laws, then drops out. That said, Steven still thinks of him as Mr. Wonderful, regardless of whether he chooses to invest or not.

Lori Greiner loves the product. Although she will gift several of them she says, the business isn’t investable for her, so she’s out.

Robert Herjavec says he’s just not a bird guy. So for that reason, he too goes out.

Mark Cuban isn’t a bird guy either. Though he congratulates Steven on what he’s accomplished, he eventually drops out.

Last but not least, Barbara Corcoran is the only shark who remains. She goes on to say that she loves birds, and will certainly buy some of the birdhouses for her garden, but it’s too early for her to invest.

Without any offers, Steven is forced to leave Shark Tank without a deal. Before he exits the tank, he tanks the sharks for the opportunity to share about his products.

Will he be able to grow his business, despite not getting a deal? Keep reading The Peep Show update to find out!
