Shark Tank Totes Babies Update

  • Entrepreneur: Lindsey Fleischhauer and Stan Valius
  • Business: Car seat holder for a shopping cart

  • Result: $100,000 for 25% equity

Totes Babies appeared on Shark Tank Season 12 Episode 17 and was pitched by Lindsey Fleischhauer and Stan Valius. Together, the father-daughter team has created a car seat holder that attaches to any shopping cart, allowing parents to easily go shopping with a baby.

Lindsey shared that she came up with the idea after she was trying to go shopping and couldn’t manage her groceries and her newborn. That’s when she had the idea for a shopping cart hammock that would safely hold the car seat. She took the idea to her dad, who created a prototype and helped start the business.

At the time of the pitch, Totes Babies had sold $220,000 worth of carriers since August 2018 and sells online and in retail stores like Buy Buy Baby and Bed Bath and Beyond. At the time of the pitch, it cost $9.90 to make each carrier and retailed for $39.95.

All of this was enough to interest Lori Greiner, Robert Herjavec, and Daniel Lubetzky. Lori offered Lindsey and Stan $100,000 for 25% equity and shared that she’d focus on licensing the product. Robert and Daniel teamed up to offer $100,000 for 25% equity and wanted to focus on getting the product into grocery stores. Despite dropping their equity ask to 22%, Lindsey and Stan turned down a deal with Robert and Daniel and accepted Lori’s offer.

In terms of a Totes Babies update after Shark Tank, Lindsey and Stan seem to be doing just fine and have even launched a new phone mount that attaches to the headrest of a car, to help keep a child occupied. Additionally, after landing a deal with Lori, it seems safe to say that Totes Babies will be successful.
