Shark Tank The Good Promise Pitch

Shark Tank The Good Promise Update
  • Entrepreneur: Karen Posada
  • Business: Organic vegetable smoothies and sauces
  • Ask: $100,000 for 20% equity
  • Result: No deal
  • Shark: None

Karen from Austin, Texas entered Shark Tank seeking an investment in her business, The Good Promise.

Instead of jumping into her pitch, she handed out samples of her smoothies and sauces. She asked the sharks to taste them like they would a glass of red wine.

The Good Promise offers organic smoothies and pasta sauces made with real vegetables like carrots, beets, spinach, and broccoli.

Karen said the goal was to make healthy food easy, affordable, and kid-friendly.

As the sharks tasted the products, Robert Herjavec asked to try the Veggie Burst smoothie.

Kevin O’Leary quickly jumped in with criticism. He said several smoothies tasted like “industrial waste,” and one reminded him of soap. Robert agreed after trying another sample.

Lori Greiner asked if the smoothies were meant to be mixed. Karen said only two were, but the bad impressions had already set in.

Daymond John, dealing with acid reflux, joked about the smoothies “cleansing” him. The room turned lighthearted, but the reactions weren’t in Karen’s favor.

Robert brought the focus back and asked about sales. Karen said her pasta sauces made $260,000 in the first 18 months. However, the smoothie line had no sales yet—it hadn’t launched.

Robert then asked why she moved away from the sauces. Karen said the profit margin was only 23%, and it was hard to keep the price low.

Lori suggested Karen improve the flavor and then dropped out. Robert followed, also unimpressed with the flavors.

Daymond went out, declaring that healthy eating enthusiasts wouldn’t like the blends used.

Kevin then made one final remark. He compared the taste of the smoothies to uncleaned snails and dropped out as well.

Karen turned to Mark Cuban. She tried to convince him, but Mark stopped her. He said she was taking on too many things, distribution, marketing, and sales—without any product on the market yet.

Mark didn’t think her brand message was clear. He also said the market was already full of similar products and dropped out too.

Unfortunately, Karen had to go back home without a deal.

Shark Tank The Good Promise Update

Our The Good Promise update found that during the weekend the episode aired, the company received around 3,000 orders and 50,000 website visits.

Despite the spike in interest, things didn’t go as planned. The company struggled with high distribution costs and tough competition in the healthy drink market.

These issues made it hard to stay profitable. By the end of 2016, The Good Promise shut down and officially closed the business.

This will be our final update for The Good Promise.

But what about the other companies featured in Season 7 Episode 22? If you’d like to find out how they did, check out these other company updates below.
