Shark Tank Man Medals Update

Man Medals Update

  • Entrepreneur: Jim O’Brien
  • Business: Novelty medals for men
  • Ask: $10,000 in exchange for 10%
  • Results: No deal
  • Sharks: None

Jim brought his Man Medals to the tank in one of Shark Tank‘s more memorable pitches. A shirtless male model helped to demonstrate ways in which men may earn his medals from their wives. His line of medals featured 6 categories based on specific household chores.

He reported sales of  $2,500 worth of the medallions in the year prior to filming. One unit costs $0.65 to make, wholesales for $2.50 each and then retails for around $5.00. The sharks were not impressed with Jim’s product or his sales, to put it mildly. It was hard not to feel sympathy for Jim as he struggled to prove the merits of his badges while the sharks laughed.

Lori Greiner advised Jim to increase his sales numbers by courting retailers at trade shows before ultimately going out. Robert Herjavec immediately followed, telling Jim he liked the medals, but it wasn’t for him. Mark Cuban was more blunt than Lori and Robert, telling Jim he didn’t have a business at all, and with that, he too was out. Kevin O’Leary agreed, going out next.

Daymond John was Jim’s last shark. Similar to Lori, Daymond also felt it was premature of Jim to come to the sharks for money when his sales figures were still low. Daymond went out and Jim had to leave the tank without a deal. What happened next for his company? Keep reading our Man Medals update to find out!

Research for our Man Medals update revealed that Jim expanded his line of special recognition products to refrigerator magnets, coffee cups, can koozies, and miniature trophies, selling his merchandise in small gift shops and on Amazon. On September 30, 2018, Jim posted on social media that his business was closing up shop, and he thanked fans and followers for their support. This will be our final Man Medals update.
