Monti Kids Update | Shark Tank Season 10

Zahra Kassam was the fourth and final entrepreneur to come onto Shark Tank during Season 10 Episode 12. She came in seeking a whopping $200,000 cash investment while she was just offering 2.5% equity to the sharks for her company, Monti Kids, a Montessori-based toy subscription box for kids. This incredible asking price did not sit well with the sharks, but they sat quietly and observed Zahra’s pitch before asking any questions. Let’s see if Zahra was able to secure a deal before we take a look at the Monti Kids update to see how the company is doing now.

Shark Tank Monti Kids Update

Monti Kids Update

  • Entrepreneurs: Zahra Kassam
  • Business: Kids Education
  • Ask: $200,000 for 2.5% equity
  • Result: $200,000 for 2.5% equity + $2.50 royalty until $600,000 repaid
  • Sharks: Kevin O’Leary

The stage-based education system that Monti Kids provides is supposed to take the role of an education program before preschool starts. Parents can subscribe from the second they realize they are pregnant and will automatically receive appropriate toys that are suitable for their baby’s development every few months.

A subscription costs $297 for all of the content over the course of a three-month period. Additional months can be purchased as well, depending on the age range of the child. In total, there are eight age levels supported between birth and three years of age. During the first year, Monti Kids generated more than $500,000 in gross sales, but the sharks were hoping for a much higher number to make up for the outrageous valuation of Zahra’s company.

Daymond John admitted to Zahra that he had seen and heard enough. He was the first shark to drop off and it seemed like several others were getting ready to follow his lead. Lori Greiner and Mark Cuban couldn’t get past the imputed valuation of $8 million and joined Daymond by dropping out as well.

Robert Herjavec decided to offer $200,000 for 10% equity but rescinded his offer after Zahra took it for granted. The only shark that had not made a decision known was Kevin O’Leary. He eventually made a slightly more complicated royalty deal of $200,000 for 2.5% equity in the company. He also wanted a royalty until he was repaid $600,000 in cash, equating to exactly three times his initial investment. With Kevin’s offer now being Zahra’s last option, she ultimately accepted.

Now let’s take a look at the Monti Kids update to see how Zahra and her company are doing. The company is still in operation and the deal did finalize with Kevin. It appears to be doing well and can still be found online on its website. The company is also listed on Kevin’s website and is included in his Shark Tank portfolio. It appears that recent sales numbers released in 2021 are still at more than $7 million per year.
