Taylor Capuano and her twin sister Casey Sarai, are the founders of CAKES Body. They’ve created a bra alternative to solve coverage issues that women can experience due to a lack of padding.

Although most swimsuits and sports bras come with foam pads, they don’t usually hold up well in the wash. The sisters say that even though traditional bras may have better coverage, not all women feel comfortable wearing them.

Sometimes certain outfits don’t even allow for a traditional bra. That’s where CAKES Body comes in.

CAKES are reusable, washable, silicone pads, that adhere naturally to the skin. Additionally, because they don’t use any adhesives, their products won’t cause any irritation, compared to other products on the market.

At this point in the pitch, the sisters pass out samples of the products and they even convince Mr. Wonderful to allow them to stick one of the CAKES to his bald head.

Then, Lori Greiner asks the sisters about their background. They shared that they needed a solution themselves, so they set out to come up with one.

Guest shark Emma Grede wants to know what makes their product unique, considering that other options exist. Casey shares that when they were originally looking for a solution, the other similar products were smaller and too thick.

CAKES are thicker and the middle then tapers out, giving a seam-free look.

Mark Cuban wants to know more about the business. That’s when Casey shares that they started with $10,000 and no investors.

In their first year in business, they made $1 million in revenue. Year to date, they’ve done $1.5 million, and they’re projecting to end the year at $5 million.

Further, they’ll profit $500,000 from those sales during the current year.

In terms of where they’re selling, the prior year, 90% of their sales came from an organic TikTok video, and zero dollars were spent on customer acquisition.

As far as cost goes, a set is $8 to manufacture and they retail for $30. This means they’re at a 75% profit margin.

Guest shark Emma Grede is impressed with the ladies but wants to know why they need a shark.

Taylor shares that they need the expertise in taking their single product company and turning it into a lasting brand. Casey adds that they want help in solving problems that women are truly facing.

Mark Cuban is impressed by the sisters, but the product isn’t his space. For this reason, he is out.

Robert Herjavec says he may have learned a thing or two about issues that women are facing, and their need for certain products. However, it’s just not for him, so he’s also out.

Emma thinks the sisters are amazing marketers, however, she thinks they have some work to do in broadening their selling channels. Because they’re only advertising on TikTok at the moment, she thinks there are more opportunities to grow.

She also sees the product growing into wholesale, and more traditional retail opportunities. With that said, she offers the duo $300,000 for 12.5% equity in CAKES Body.

The ladies thank Emma for the offer while telling her how much they love both her and the QVC queen herself, Lori.

At this point, Kevin interjects with an offer of his own. He offers them $300,000 for 5% equity, plus a $1 per unit royalty until he makes back $1 million.

Casey and Taylor then counter Emma for 8% equity, but she says no. Emma then counters back with her final offer of 10% equity.

The sisters finally accept Emma’s deal, but what happened following Shark Tank? Keep reading our CAKES Body update to find out!

For our CAKES Body update, we got to interview Taylor to see what has happened to the company since Shark Tank.

Taylor shared that the deal with Emma went through and that working with her has been a dream come true for her and her sister. “Working with Emma Greede has been surreal, she is the most iconic business leader of our time, yet is one of the most compassionate and down-to-earth people we have ever met,” Taylor told us.

Before filming on Shark Tank in June 2023, CAKES Body was on track to do $5 million in sales. But thanks to Shark Tank, the partnership with Emma, and some viral social media posts, Taylor told us that they will finish 2023 with close to $10 million in sales.

Even better, Taylor shared that they will have donated over $300,000 to women’s health causes.

The future looks bring for our next CAKES Body update too. “We are innovating on new product solutions that will be coming out as early as March of 2024,” Taylor told us.

We can’t wait to see what happens and would like to thank Taylor for taking the time to give us an official CAKES Body update.
