Shark Tank Shredskinz Pitch

Shark Tank Shred Skinz Update
  • Entrepreneur: Kalaii Griffin II
  • Business: Fitness/Workout Sauna Suit
  • Ask: $60,000 for 20% equity
  • Result: $60,000 for 20% equity
  • Shark: Mark Cuban

Kalaii entered Shark Tank driven by his frustrations as a Division 1 athlete. He wants to change how people approach fitness.

He explained that the funds would help lower production costs and scale inventory, enabling him to meet growing demand and expand his direct-to-consumer reach.

Shredskinz is a fitness brand that offers single-use, recyclable sauna suits. These suits boost sweat production and trap heat during workouts.

They are made from eco-friendly materials and come in colors like black, green, and pink. Elastic bands and drawstrings provide a secure fit, ensuring comfort and usability.

Furthermore, the suits solve the hygiene issues of traditional reusable sauna suits, which require constant cleaning.

Shredskinz is the only single-use sauna suit available on the market. Made from eco-friendly plastic with a unique resin, it breaks down faster than traditional materials.

To prove its effectiveness, Kalaii poured sweat from his suit during his presentation and showed videos of others doing the same, which impressed the sharks.

Kalaii revealed that he promotes his product on TikTok, where his videos have gone viral in the shortest time frame.

One of his videos had 17 million views, driving his sales growth from $15,000 in 2020 to $190,000 in 2021.

By mid-2022, sales exceeded $100,000, with projections of $250,000 by the end of the year.

Despite this success, Kalaii faces financial hurdles. He owed $25,000 to a business partner who holds 25% equity in the company and is managing a $100,000 loan.

His determination to grow Shredskinz comes from a strong desire to provide for his family, who currently live apart due to ‘money problems’.

Kalaii told the sharks that his drive comes from personal hardships, including the loss of both parents at 13, raising his younger brother, and his determination to make his son proud.

Kalaii’s inventory totals $35,000, with each five-pack costing $4.17 to produce and selling for $19.99.

Kevin O’Leary examines the product and its market potential but declines to invest, explaining that he does not see a clear path to recoup his investment.

Lori Greiner acknowledges Kalaii’s efforts but states that the product does not fit her investment interests and steps away.

Guest shark Daniel Lubetzky, impressed by Kalaii’s honesty and determination, offers $60,000 for 20% equity, matching Kalaii’s initial request.

Mark Cuban follows with the same offer of $60,000 for 20% equity, suggesting ways to cut costs, including reducing packaging to improve profitability.

Daymond John says he should consider the offers on the table.

After careful consideration, Kalaii chooses Mark Cuban’s proposal because he feels he could move faster with someone like Mark on his team.

Let’s get a Shredskinz update to see where the company is today.
