Shark Tank BusyBox Update
- Entrepreneurs:Â Steve Skillings and Conor Smith
- Business: Smart illuminated status signs
- Ask: $200,000 for 15% equity
- Result: No deal
- Shark: None
Steve Skilling and Conor Smith are trying to tackle the common troubles of working from a home office with their invention, the BusyBox. It’s designed to help you avoid unnecessary interruptions by displaying your availability for all to see and can be controlled remotely.
While the sharks love Steve and Conor’s pitch and presentation, they are shocked by the price. Specifically, the fully customizable, digital BusyBox retails for $229, which is simply not okay with the sharks.
Though BusyBox’s lifetime sales reached $429,000 as of filming, the sharks can’t support the product’s price.
Not surprisingly, all it takes for Mark Cuban to bow out is the description of a product pipeline. Steve begins to explain that they hoped to break into the wellness space, and as a result, Mark immediately goes out.
Lori Greiner follows as she thinks the product is too expensive. Because of this, she goes out.
The next shark to go out is Robert Herjavec. He thinks the product’s move into the wellness space is a huge stretch and that it is, overall, a trend.
Finally, Kevin O’Leary goes out without much comment, followed closely by Daymond John. Both agree that the price is simply too much for everyday people.
Unfortunately, BusyBox leaves
Steve is as tenacious as they come! We got the chance to speak with him in an exclusive interview to see what he’s up to after
BusyBox sales have continued to grow year over year, despite having some issues with the supply of video driver chips for their most popular product. “We’re up year after year and now have mega companies talking with us about adding BusyBox products to their spaces and work-from-home setups for their staff,” Steve told us.
He continued, “We’re also making great gains in the podcaster, voice-over artist, home recording studio, home creator studio, and streamer markets with the BusyBox R as a super affordable option.”
Currently, the company has four different models of signs to choose from on the BusyBox website, with options for every price level. There are also accessories like covers and mounts and different messages to keep your office space interesting.
While we don’t have any revenue numbers to share, Steve told us that 2024 will be BusyBox’s best year yet and that things are looking bright for another BusyBox update.
“We’re expanding our horizon beyond signs, delving into smart products tailored for professionals, creators, and the educational sector,” Steve told us. He continued, “We’ve started to connect our personal BusyBoxes to an AI engine our CTO is honing, which is focused on helping with productivity and things are very exciting so far.”
Despite not getting a deal, things are looking bright for Steve and BusyBox!
