Founder of Fishwife, Becca Millstein, brought her canned fish company to Shark Tank Season 15 Episode 10. At first, the name Fishwife may seem a little odd, so she explains the meaning behind it.

It turns out, that in the 16th century, the term Fishwife was used to describe the wives of fishermen. It was their job to go to the market to sell the fish, and they were known for being loud because they had to quickly sell their perishable goods.

She says she can relate to them. That’s because she is unapologetically flipping the seafood market on its tail, in a bold, brazen, and beautiful way. The company partners with the best fisheries, farms, and canneries from all around the world. Fishwife products are also ready to eat, right from the tin.

Becca aims to wake up the canned fish market because her products aren’t like the canned tuna most of us grew up with. She suggests that her fish actually pairs with things like rice bowls, and pasta, and salads.

She also adds that it’s unlike anything the sharks have ever tasted. So, with that, she hands out samples for them to judge for themselves.

Happily for Becca, the sharks all approve. Lori Greiner, who is always looking for healthy products, asks if any of the fish is packed without oil.

Unfortunately, as Becca clears up, there aren’t any made without oil at this time. In terms of cost, a can retails for $7.99 and costs $2.09 to manufacture.

Guest shark Candace Nelson points out that canned fish is actually trending on TikTok, and it’s also a really big thing in Spain. Becca then goes on to share that she had the idea for the business when she was studying abroad in Spain.

In the first year of business, 2021, Becca brought in $750,000 in sales. Then, in 2022, she did $2.6 million.

Additionally, during the current year of filming, she’s on track to do $5.8 million in sales. Further half of her sales are direct to consumers, while the other half come from retail.

Her products are in 1,300 stores regionally, plus, she’s about to partner with Whole Foods on a national level.

Kevin O’Leary makes the first offer of $350,000 as debt at 11% interest, for 3 years. He also wants 5% equity in the company.

Daymond John offered $350,000 in return for $0.15 per can in perpetuity. He doesn’t want any equity in the company.

To clear the deck some, Mark Cuban drops out, because it’s just not a fit for him. With that, he congratulations Becca on her accomplishments.

After Mark went out, Candace and Lori partnered up to offer $350,000 for 10% equity. Lori adds that she would love to see the Fishwife products partner up with another one of her Shark Tank companies, Boarderie.

Becca counters Candace and Lori with $350,000 for 6% equity, plus 2% advisory shares, and the two sharks accept the deal! With that, Becca leaves with something to celebrate!

Did the deal end up benefitting Becca following Shark Tank? Keep reading our Fishwife update to find out!

In terms of a Fishwife update, we’re sure that Becca received a nice boost in sales following her appearance on Shark Tank. This tends to happen for companies within the weeks and months of their episode airing.

However, no word yet about the Boarderie partnership, but we’re guessing that will be next on the list for this growing company. As far as customers go, there seems to be plenty of them, especially given the massive online following.

Fishwife on Instagram has over 86,000 followers and a very active account with tons of happenings. There’s even a Fishwife brand ambassador program for those who are super fans and would like some extra perks, besides tasty fish.

Products are available in Whole Foods around the country, along with many other retailers, including Amazon. Some of the options include Smoked Salmon, Smoked Rainbow Trout, Smoked Albacore Tuna, Smoked Mackerel, and Anchovies.
