Shark Tank Hella Awkward Update

Hella Awkward Update | Shark Tank Season 16

During the 2020 lockdowns, Brittane Rowe often talked with her brother and his fiancée on FaceTime. After discussing everyday topics, they quickly ran out of things to say. Brittane realized it can be tough having meaningful conversations, especially when people mostly stick to small talk. To help solve this, she created Hella Awkward, a card game that asks fun and surprising questions, making it easier for people to connect and have real conversations. Let’s see how the negotiations go for Brittane in our Hella Awkward update and pitch recap.

Instead of small talk, it encourages players to share real stories. The game includes 140 thought-provoking questions in four categories: Relationships, Dating, Real Talk, and S-E-X.

Players take turns drawing a card and answering. If a question feels too uncomfortable, they can use a skip card.

This simple yet engaging format makes it easy for people to connect, whether at a party or a family gathering.

Additionally, Brittane introduced Build-a-Bae, a game centered around dating.

To prove how engaging the game is, Brittane had the sharks play a round. After some laughs, the focus shifted to business.

Robert Herjavec asked about sales and Brittane shared that to date she had done $600,000 in lifetime sales.

In her first year, she generated $90,000, while the next year brought in $110,000, despite a six-month supply delay.

However, the business bounced back, reaching $250,000 last year, and is now on track to hit $600,000 this year.

Mark Cuban wanted to know why sales had grown so much. Brittane explained that her expansion into Target was a key factor.

Initially, the game launched in 450 Target stores, but strong sales led to an increase to 520 stores.

Meanwhile, Walmart also took notice, placing the game in 600 stores and soon expanding to 1,000.

The game costs $2.80 to produce and sells for $24.99, while the expansion pack costs under $1 to make and sells for $12.99. And so far, they have sold about 50,000 units.

Lori Greiner is curious about Brittane’s background, and Brittane narrated how she moved to New York as a theater actor, but when the 2020 lockdowns hit, she found herself stuck at home.

Rather than letting isolation take over, she, her brother Brandon, and his fiancée Jane started having deep conversations over FaceTime.

What began as casual discussions soon turned into a structured list of engaging questions.

They shared it with friends and family, and the overwhelmingly positive response convinced them to turn it into a real game.

Further, Brittane explained that the company’s ownership is split 33.3% between herself, Brandon, and Jane. Brandon contributed $7,000, Jane put in $3,000, and she provided sweat equity.

Kevin O’Leary offered $200,000 for 25% equity, adding that he could take over distribution and accelerate growth.

Robert narrated how a similar business achieved tremendous success and admitted that he regretted missing out on that opportunity.

Without hesitation, he offered $200,000 for 10% equity, sticking to Brittane’s original ask.

Lori, not wanting to be left out, quickly made an offer as well. She proposed $200,000 for 12% equity.

Brittane took a moment to weigh her options. Then, she turned to Robert and accepted his offer.

With a deal in hand, let’s get a Hella Awkward update to see how Brittane is doing.
