Shark Tank Rolodoc Update

Rolodoc Update | Shark Tank Season 5

After nearly a decade in the medical field, Iranian-American brothers Dr. Albert Amini and Dr. Richard Amini noticed how disconnected communication still was among doctors and patients. They saw that hospitals relied on outdated tools like fax and email, slowing down care and collaboration. So they decided to create Rolodoc, a secure social network that connects medical professionals and patients in real time. Let’s see if they do get a deal in our Rolodoc update and pitch recap.

Shark Tank Rolodoc Pitch

Shark Tank Rolodoc Update
  • Entrepreneurs: Albert and Richard Amini
  • Business: Social network for doctors
  • Ask: $50,000 for 20% equity
  • Result: No deal
  • Shark: None

Albert and Richard described their idea as a communication platform that allowed medical professionals to share information, exchange ideas, and connect with patients in a secure online space.

They explained that the idea came from their own experience working long hours in hospitals. They observed how difficult it was for doctors to communicate quickly about patient care.

Their goal was to address this problem by creating a private network similar to Facebook or LinkedIn, but specifically designed for the medical community.

The brothers said Rolodoc would let doctors communicate, share files, and collaborate on cases in real time.

Patients could also use the platform to find doctors and send medical records safely. They called it a faster, smarter way to connect healthcare providers and patients.

However, the sharks were immediately confused by the pitch. Mark Cuban asked how the app would make money, but the brothers didn’t provide a clear business model.

They said it would grow through user engagement, but had no concrete plan for monetization.

Kevin O’Leary wanted to know how many doctors had signed up or shown interest. The brothers admitted the app was still in early development and had no active users. That answer drew skepticism across the room.

Lori Greiner raised privacy concerns. She asked how they would protect medical records and comply with health data laws. The brothers couldn’t clearly explain how data security or encryption would work on the platform.

Barbara Corcoran questioned how they would verify the identities of doctors joining the app. Without a verification process, she said, anyone could claim to be a doctor online.

Meanwhile, Robert Herjavec said he didn’t understand who the target audience really was. He asked if it was meant for doctors to connect or for patients to find doctors. He added that the pitch felt unfocused and lacked a clear direction.

The more questions they asked, the more uncertain the sharks became. The brothers struggled to clarify their answers, and the pitch started to unravel.

Mark became visibly frustrated. He stood up and told them it was “the worst pitch ever,” saying they had failed to explain the product or show how it could work in real life.

Kevin ended the discussion with a harsh comment about risk and reward, saying he didn’t see any value in investing. One by one, the sharks went out.

In the end, none of the sharks made an offer. The brothers left the tank without a deal, disappointed by how poorly the pitch had gone.

Were the brothers able to turn things around? Let’s take a look at our Rolodoc update.

Shark Tank Rolodoc Update

Sadly, Rolodoc went down as one of the worst ever Shark Tank pitches.

As expected, our Rolodoc update found that the businesses never advanced after their Shark Tank appearance. By 2013, the website went offline, and the app’s social media pages became inactive.

Meanwhile, both founders have continued to thrive in medicine.

Dr. Richard Amini continues to serve as Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Arizona, while Dr. Albert Amini is the President and lead surgeon at Arizona Premier Surgery.

This marks the end of our Rolodoc update.
