Shark Tank Postcard on the Run Update

Postcard on the Run Update | Shark Tank Season 5

Josh always had a dream, and that was to build something of his own in tech. After spending a few years at Myspace as Head of Marketing, he watched how quickly people shifted from real connection to just sharing moments online. That change made him want to build something more personal, which led to Postcard on the Run. The app lets users snap a photo on their phone, add a short message, and send it as a printed postcard anywhere in the world. Let’s see if any of the sharks would be interested in making a deal in our Postcard on the Run update and pitch recap.

Shark Tank Postcard on the Run Pitch

Shark Tank Postcard on the Run Update
  • Entrepreneur: Josh Brooks
  • Business: Mobile photo-printing app
  • Ask: $300,000 for 5% equity
  • Result: $300,000 for 7.5% equity
  • Shark: Robert Herjavec

Josh came with excitement about his ingenious idea. He told the sharks that Post Card on the Run was his way of bringing back the old postcard charm using modern technology.

He further explained that users could take a picture, add a note, and send it directly from their phones. The company handled everything from printing to postage.

Each postcard also came with a scannable code that could link to a short video or digital message.

Josh said the app had already been downloaded over 500,000 times and generated about $450,000 in sales.

He also mentioned that Selena Gomez had invested in the business and actively promoted it, which caught the sharks’ attention.

However, the questions started right away. Mark Cuban didn’t like the numbers and said the valuation was “ridiculous.” He told Josh that the company wasn’t there yet and backed out.

Kevin O’Leary agreed, saying the business had strong potential but wasn’t making enough to justify the price. He said it was too risky and went out.

Barbara Corcoran shared that she personally loved postcards and considered them thoughtful gifts. Still, she didn’t like the lack of a handwritten touch. “It takes away the warm feeling of getting one,” she said before dropping out.

Meanwhile, Lori Greiner said she liked the idea but didn’t believe the technology was unique enough. She pointed out that others could easily copy it, so she also decided not to invest.

That left Robert Herjavec. He said his kids would probably enjoy using the app, especially with Selena Gomez involved. He liked the concept but thought the valuation was too high. Despite that, he made an offer of $300,000 for 10% equity, cutting the valuation in half.

Josh tried to negotiate. He asked if Robert could raise the valuation to $5 million. Robert countered with $4 million. Josh suggested meeting in the middle at $4.5 million, but Robert stood firm.

In the end, Postcard on the Run walked away with a deal from Robert at $300,000 for 7.5% equity.

Let’s find out where the company stands now in our Postcard on the Run update.

Shark Tank Postcard on the Run Update

Our Postcard on the Run update found that things didn’t quite pan out the way Josh Brooks had hoped.

First off, we’re not sure Robert Herjavec went through with the deal after the show, after conducting his due diligence.

Needless to say, as expected, competition in the app space grew very fast, and it got harder for Josh to stand out.

Their website didn’t exactly help either. It was rarely updated, and users complained it wasn’t clear how much the service actually cost.

The app’s reviews were mixed with two stars on the App Store and around 3.7 on Google Play.

While some folks loved the service, using it to send postcards from their vacations, others complained about the constant glitches that made the whole thing more frustrating than fun.

By 2015, it became clear the ride was over. The company announced on Facebook that the app would shut down that October, assuring users that any pending orders would still be printed and shipped.

Although Josh didn’t exactly disappear entirely. According to his LinkedIn profile, Josh Brooks is now the Executive Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at Salt AI, an artificial intelligence development platform based in Los Angeles.

Unfortunately, this will be our last Postcard on the Run update.
