Shark Tank GoodEgg Pitch

Shark Tank Good Egg Update
  • Entrepreneurs: Amy and Bryce Van Leuven, Tim Rowberry
  • Business: Egg-cleaning tool
  • Ask: $200,000 for 10% equity
  • Result: $200,000 for 20% equity
  • Sharks: Chip and Joanna Gaines

Amy and Bryce walked into the Tank with their partner, Tim. The trio from Riverton, Utah, started by addressing a common issue among backyard chicken owners — dirty eggs.

They explained that more than 11 million households now raise chickens in the U.S. While farm-fresh eggs are appealing, they often come with mud, feathers, and waste. Even clean-looking ones can carry bacteria like Salmonella and E. coli.

The team said cleaning eggs was supposed to be fun, but it turned out to be the messiest part of the job. So, they set out to solve it.

Their solution was GoodEgg, a food-grade silicone scrubber designed to gently remove dirt without cracking the shell.

The scrubber is dishwasher-safe, reversible, and made with built-in airflow and drainage for hygiene.

Meanwhile, their 99% organic enzyme egg wash breaks down bacteria naturally without penetrating the egg’s porous shell.

Daniel Lubetzky complimented the product name. Joanna Gaines, who raises chickens and ducks on her farm, asked about pricing.

Tim said the brush costs $2 to make and sells for $20. The full kit lands at $10 and retails for $55, while the enzyme wash costs $3.79 and sells for $15.

Barbara Corcoran wanted to know how well the business was doing. Tim said they’ve sold over $2.5 million so far, with $1.1 million made in their first full year.

He added that they’re on track for $3 million in revenue this year, with $500,000 in profit after paying themselves.

However, Joanna wanted to understand why they needed an investment. Tim explained the funds would go toward inventory and new product development in the modern homesteading space.

Joanna pointed out that $55 might be a steep price when many people would just use dish soap. Amy clarified that dish soap isn’t safe for eggs since it can soak through the shell and trap bacteria inside.

She said their scrubber and wash were designed to reduce waste and last longer than disposable cleaning products.

Chip Gaines then asked about their charity work. Amy shared that while developing the product, she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. The business went on hold as they focused on her recovery.

That experience became central to their brand, inspiring them to donate 10% of profits to cancer-related causes.

Daniel appreciated their compassion but said the market wasn’t right for him. Barbara and Lori Grienier agreed and bowed out.

Kevin O’Leary said the valuation was too high for a new business and also stepped away.

In the end, Chip and Joanna were the only sharks left. Joanna said she loved their story and could see GoodEgg fitting into their Magnolia lifestyle brand. The couple offered $200,000 for 20% equity.

Amy and Bryce countered at 15%, but Chip stood firm, saying 20% reflected the value they’d bring. Ultimately, the founders agreed, sealing the deal.

With a deal in hand, let’s get a GoodEgg update to see how the founders are doing.
