Shark Tank Frame Your Feline Update

Frame Your Feline Update | Shark Tank Season 16

When Brian Vermeire and Kristina Hughes moved into their new home, they didn’t want to bring their old cat tree because it looked messy and didn’t match the rest of the house. So to solve this challenge, they came up with an idea: Frame Your Feline. Essentially, it’s a wall shelf that lets cats climb and relax inside a picture frame. It makes the cat part of the décor and keeps the home looking neat. While this idea is innovative, will the sharks think it’s worth investing in? Let’s find out in our Frame Your Feline update and pitch recap.

Shark Tank Frame Your Feline Pitch

Shark Tank Frame Your Feline Update
  • Entrepreneurs: Brian Vermeire and Kristina Hughes
  • Business: Luxury pet furniture
  • Ask: $100,000 for 10% equity
  • Result: No deal
  • Shark: None

Brian and Kristina walked into Shark Tank and introduced a wall-mounted cat shelf designed to turn cats into framed art.

The product includes two floating shelves, a decorative frame, and interchangeable background panels. It mounts to the wall with four screws.

When a cat jumps in, it appears as if it’s part of a framed artwork. The shelves require no training. Cats naturally climb, rest, and scratch on them.

Mark Cuban asked where people usually install it. Brian said it works anywhere you’d hang a picture. He also pointed out that traditional cat trees look bulky and unattractive.

Barbara Corcoran pushed back, saying a cat tree offers more climbing surfaces. Kristina clarified that cats can use both the top and bottom shelves.

Barbara asked if cats ever urinate on the product. Kristina explained that version 1.0 was made of wood, which absorbed odors. They upgraded to a non-porous, non-toxic material that’s stronger and lighter.

Brian said the original version sold for $399. With manufacturing now in place, the current version sells for $299.

Kevin O’Leary then asked how often cats use the product. Kristina said they use it often, especially when guests are around. The visual surprise adds to its charm.

Lori Greiner asked how they came up with the idea. Kristina said they were inspired by an art frame gifted by her dad, they decided to create something stylish and functional for their cat.

Brian said they run a design agency and work from home. They handle Frame Your Feline as a side project for now.

Barbara asked about the cost to make it. Brian said it costs $169 per unit.

Brian said they earned $3,000 in 2022 when they launched their website. His father made each unit by hand.

In 2023, they went to CatCon and made $10,000. But again, they couldn’t scale because production was still manual.

Recently, they raised $11,000 through a successful Kickstarter.

Kristina mentioned the size of the cat furniture market, but the sharks quickly shut that down.

Mark said that quoting industry size without a clear plan is meaningless. He went out, saying the pricing made it hard to scale.

Lori asked if they considered testing a cheaper version at $49. Brian said that wasn’t possible with their materials.

Kristina added that cat owners are tired of low-quality products that fall apart.

Barbara agreed with Lori. She said the product was too expensive for mass adoption. Both Lori and Barbara dropped out.

Daymond John said he enjoyed cat pitches but felt the market response showed the product wasn’t viable at its current price. He also went out.

Kevin called the business overvalued and said he disliked the product. He went out as well.

With all sharks out, Brian and Kristina thanked them and left without a deal.
