Husband and wife duo Lloyd and Susan told the sharks their product was created to solve a lifelong issue.
Lloyd had been snoring since birth, and after 50 years of marriage, Susan gave him an ultimatum: either he fixed the problem or leave the bedroom altogether.
He said he tried every snoring product available. Clips, strips, vents, mouth devices, and masks, but all failed.
Lloyd then shared how he found an article from 1888. Dr. Fowler, a surgeon at the time, treated tuberculosis patients by making them sleep upright.
The method improved oxygen intake and eliminated snoring. Lloyd said this was the inspiration for The Snorinator, a memory foam pillow designed to keep people upright while they sleep.
Susan explained that they partnered with a foam manufacturer to build the product. The pillow weighs seven and a half pounds and trains users to rest in an upright position.
She then invited the sharks to try it. Guest shark Michael Strahan volunteered first, followed by Lori Greiner.
Robert Herjavec asked Michael if it was comfortable. Michael said yes, even adding that it blocked out sound. Lori agreed she could rest upright with it.
Michael wanted to know how much of their own money they invested. Lloyd said they put in $341,000, leaving only $38 in their account after molds and inventory.
Robert asked about pricing and sales. Lloyd said the production cost was $38, and they sold it for $160.
Sales were $100,000 in year one, $214,000 in year two, and they projected $325,000 in year three. With a shark’s support, he said it could reach $6 million.
However, when Robert pressed about profits, Lloyd admitted they lost around $500,000. Lori then asked if they had patent protection. Susan confirmed they held an issued utility patent.
Michael followed up by asking about pillowcases, and Lloyd explained that customers often bought both a pillow and a pillowcase, and many returned for a second unit.
Barbara Corcoran said she understood the need but shared her personal challenge. After back surgery, she could not sleep upright and still snored heavily. She said she liked the couple but not the product, so she went out.
Kevin O’Leary said he also could not see the market angle and bowed out.
Robert added that he believed customers would struggle to change sleeping positions, so he dropped out, too.
That left Lori and Michael. Lori pointed out that the best products solve major problems, and snoring was one of them.
She asked Michael for his thoughts. He said it was comfortable and relatable since his father was a loud snorer. They decided to make a joint offer of $100,000 for 25% equity.
Meanwhile, the Eckers countered at 22%, but Michael and Lori stood firm.
After a short pause, Lloyd agreed. The deal closed at 25% equity, giving them two sharks.
