Shark Tank The Chair Blanket Pitch

- Entrepreneurs: Chris and Tiffany McCasland
- Business: A cozy chair cover
- Ask: $200,000 for 10% equity
- Result: $200,000 for 20% equity
- Shark: Robert Herjavec
The pitch started with a melodrama where Chris pretended to sit on a chair that had been left outside in the rain. His pants quickly became soaked.
Tiffany explained that this was a problem many people deal with at outdoor events. Wet chairs at tailgates, games, concerts, and campsites often leave people uncomfortable.
The Chair Blanket is designed in this way: one side has a waterproof backing that protects users from wet or dirty chairs. The other side features soft Sherpa fleece that provides warmth and comfort.
The couple revealed that Ryan, who is their business partner, first presented the concept to them. He owns 45% of the business, while they kept the remaining 55%.
However, Chris clarified that he and Tiffany receive 100% of the daily profits. But Ryan receives a 4% royalty on each sale and holds his equity share if the company is ever sold.
The product retails for $49.99, landed cost is $12.50. They launched in November 2024 with a 9,000-unit pilot run, which sold out in only three weeks.
Their two primary sales models are DTC via their website and Amazon. Since launching, they have done $400,000 in sales and had about 25% net return. Year to date, they were already at $350,000 in sales, with a $3 million sales projection for the next year.
Robert is concerned about how they planned to grow that quickly. Chris explained that 25,000 additional units were already being shipped, which would increase their inventory and allow them to meet demand.
Guest shark Fawn Weaver asked if the company’s main problem was supply rather than demand. Chris confirmed that demand was strong, but they needed more inventory to fulfill orders.
Daniel Lubetzky expressed his concern about their projections and potential copycats; as a result, he is the first shark to bow out of the negotiations.
In contrast, Robert Herjavec liked the product and offered $200,000 for 20% equity.
In response, Kevin O’Leary made a competing offer of $200,000 for 15% equity, but he wanted the equity to come from Ryan’s ownership while also taking a 4% royalty.
But that didn’t sit well with Chris, so they immediately refused that offer. Lori Greiner sighted the same concerns as Daniel, and she’s out as well.
Fawn also stepped out, saying Robert was better suited to help them grow the outdoor product.
Chris and Tiffany eventually revisited Robert’s offer and tried to counter at 15% equity, but Robert declined.
At the end, they had to stick with his original offer of $200,000 for 20% equity.
