Shark Tank Sock Candy Update

Sock Candy Update | Shark Tank Season 16

The idea for Sock Candy came to Mary Gui while she worked on her fashion brand on Instagram, where she styled bold outfits, including unique socks. Her followers kept complimenting her sock choices, but she struggled to find styles that truly matched her fashion-forward looks. Tired of boring, plain options that didn’t reflect her personality, she decided to create her own line of sheer, embroidered socks designed to stand out. Will the sharks support Mary’s business idea? Let’s find out in our Sock Candy update and pitch recap.

Shark Tank Sock Candy Pitch

Shark Tank Sock Candy Update
  • Entrepreneur: Mary Gui
  • Business: Sheer socks
  • Ask: $150,000 for 5% equity
  • Result: $150,000 for 10% equity
  • Shark: Barbara Corcoran

Mary stepped into Shark Tank to pitch Sock Candy, a fashion sock brand that turns ordinary socks into bold, standout accessories.

Her socks feature sheer fabric, whimsical patterns, and bright colors.

Each pair is made with nylon and cotton and features reinforced heels and toes, which makes them not just stylish but practical for everyday use.

Interestingly, according to Mary, some customers say the sheer designs look like tattoos on the feet, giving them a unique visual appeal.

Meanwhile, her business operates on a direct-to-consumer model, with most sales coming through online channels.

Each pair retails for $18, wholesales for $9, and costs between $2.50 and $3.00 to produce.

As Mary handed out samples, the sharks began to engage. Mark Cuban noted he’s a fan of whimsical socks.

Lori Greiner asked about the embroidery process and compared the fabric to pantyhose with a design. Mary confirmed the design is embroidered directly onto the sheer fabric.

Mary shared that she had made $826,000 in sales year-to-date, with $1.2 million in the last 12 months. She projected to close the year at $1.4 million.

When Mark asked if the business was profitable, Mary confirmed it was. She expected to net $300,000 this year and had already made $114,000 the year before on $700,000 in revenue.

Kevin O’Leary followed up by asking whether she had raised outside funding. Mary said she had not—the company was fully bootstrapped.

In response to a question from Robert Herjavec about plans, Mary said her goal was to launch a collection with Target, which she saw as a key step toward brand growth and retail expansion.

At this point, the sharks started making decisions. Mark, despite being a sock lover, said he didn’t feel he could bring value and stepped out.

Similarly, Robert also stepped away, explaining that while he admired Mary’s drive, socks weren’t his category.

However, Kevin made an offer of $150,000 for 12.5% equity, citing her solid sales and sharp business instincts.

Shortly after, Barbara Corocran followed with an offer of $150,000 for 15% equity, adding that she could connect Mary directly with the right person at Target.

She even promised that if she failed to make the connection, Mary could keep the money and reclaim her equity—an offer that impressed the other sharks.

Mary, still weighing her options, turned to Lori and asked if she’d like to make an offer.

Lori praised Mary for her hard work and accomplishments. However, she admitted she wasn’t a fan of socks and declined to invest.

With only two offers left on the table, Mary countered Barbara’s offer, asking if she would accept $150,000 for 10% equity.

Ultimately, Barbara quickly agreed, and they sealed the deal.

Now, let’s check in for a Sock Candy update.
