Shark Tank FlaminGO Update

FlaminGO Update | Shark Tank Season 16

While working on his cattle ranch in Georgia, Smith Alan Baggett often ran into the same problem; his phone battery would run down, and there was no way to charge it. With no power nearby, he couldn’t make important calls or stay connected when he needed to. That’s why he created FlaminGO, a pre-charged, rechargeable phone charger that’s ready to use right out of the package. Will the sharks see the potential in this grab-and-go charger? Let’s find out in our FlaminGO update and pitch recap.

Shark Tank FlaminGO Pitch

Shark Tank FlaminGO Update
  • Entrepreneur: Smith Alan Baggett
  • Business: Portable phone charger
  • Ask: $100,000 for 20% equity
  • Result: $100,000 for 22% equity
  • Shark: Barbara Corcoran

Smith entered Shark Tank with FlaminGO, a pre-charged phone charger for people on the go.

He described real-life situations where a dead phone battery could cause problems: during a business call, at a bar needing a ride, or out on horseback with no way to call for help.

FlaminGO solves this by providing a fully charged, pocket-sized power source with a three-in-one tip (micro USB, USB-C, and lightning).

It works with phones, earbuds, and other small devices, making it a versatile option for a wide range of users.

Unlike traditional power banks, which must be charged in advance, FlaminGO comes pre-charged and ready to use.

This feature is perfect for busy places like theme parks, nightclubs, and sports arenas, where people often run out of battery with no charger nearby. It also works well for vending machines, offering a quick charging solution on the go.

While similar products exist, many lack built-in cables or cannot be recharged.

FlaminGO has a built-in cord and can also recharge via USB-C. It holds power for up to two years on the shelf.

As Smith laid out his pitch, the sharks jumped in with questions.  Barbara Corcoran wanted to understand the battery’s lifespan.

Smith said it would slowly lose power but could hold a charge for up to two years.

Lori Greiner, curious about its long-term use, asked whether the product was disposable or rechargeable.

Smith highlighted that his charger stands out because it can be recharged with a USB-C port, unlike most pre-charged options. This makes it a more sustainable choice.

The product retails between $12.99 and $19.99, with theme parks typically charging a higher price.

When asked about production costs, he shared that each unit costs $3.65 to manufacture and ship.

At this point, Lori dug deeper into the technical aspects. She noted that her own charger had 4,000 milliamps, whereas FlaminGO only had 3,000 milliamps, meaning it wouldn’t charge as fast or hold as much power.

She then questioned how much charge it could provide for an iPhone. Smith explained that while it could fully charge an iPhone 10, an iPhone 15 would reach about 70% charge in an hour.

Smith revealed that over the past year, he had generated $318,000 in revenue from just seven deals.

He told the sharks that a major convenience store chain was testing an initial order of 50,000 units. This could be a turning point for his business.

Barbara, weighing the investment, asked about future sales potential. Smith emphasized that his growth hinged on securing the right support.

She then offered $100,000 for 25% equity, admitting she could have gone as low as 20% but wanted to negotiate like a shark.

At this point, Mark and Lori encouraged Smith to counter with 20% equity, believing she would accept.

However, Smith, valuing fairness, suggested 22.5% equity instead. Barbara countered at 22%, and Smith, seeing the opportunity, agreed.

As the deal was finalized, the room filled with laughter. The sharks teased Barbara about her chemistry with Smith, adding to the lively atmosphere.

Let’s get a FlaminGO update to see what happened to the company after Shark Tank.
